Neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Jeaveau and Xeomin are derived from an amazing serum from the bacterium “Clostridium botulinum” that contains tiny refined amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein. It’s been studied in numerous clinical trials and reviewed in multiple scientific journals and discovered to be safe and extremely effective at temporarily smoothing away wrinkles around the face and neck for three to six months. Both neurotoxins are comprised of the same ingredient, Botulinum A, used to prevent wrinkles in adults by relaxing the muscles beneath the skin. Once the muscles relax, the skin becomes smoother. The most important factor in having Dysport or Botox injected is the skill of the injector. Dysport, on average, is less expensive than Botox. Typically, Dysport results are visible within 1 to 2 days, while Botox can take up to 5 days, but Botox results typically last a bit longer. However, Dysport injections are about 2 centimeters deeper than Botox injections, so they can encompass a wider treatment area. Some patients who have tried both prefer one neurotoxin over the other for a variety of reasons.
The procedure itself only takes about ten or fifteen minutes to complete. You’ll be able to go back to your daily activities immediately.
Unlike most surgical procedures, Botox is not permanent. Results wear off in 3-6 months, and it’s safe to add more at any time if desired. We always recommend a conservative approach if it’s your first time getting Botox so you can gradually achieve the look you want.
Being injected with a neurotoxin is a completely elective procedure that helps smooth out fine lines and wrinkles making you look and feel younger!
Results may vary from patient to patient. Typically the neurotoxins begin smoothing out wrinkles within a few days following treatment. The full effect doesn’t occur until about 7 to 10 days after the procedure. Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau and Xeomin all have slightly different timelines for when they fully take effect.
Botox treatments perform other incredible things besides relaxing wrinkles. The cosmetic drug is popular at halting migraines and calming underarm sweating. It can be injected into the pectoral muscles to give one’s decollete a smoother appearance. The injectable is now popular for those who grind their teeth or to treat TMJ; it shrinks the muscles and jawline when injected along that part of the face and can cleverly tighten the jowls.
Neurotoxins not only treat lines and wrinkles that you already have, it also prevents wrinkles from developing in the future.
If you’ve never tried Dysport, Botox or other injectables, don’t worry, it’s simple, quick and relatively painless. Neurotoxin injections aren’t permanent and wear off over time. We always recommend starting out conservative and then adding more if desired until you have the perfect result.
Minor side effects may include tenderness, swelling, redness, slight numbness or bruising and headache. These conditions do not last long and don’t effect everyone. Once treated patients are able to move about and assume their regular routine. Our master injectors take the time to consult with you and fully understand your goals before making a recommendation.
