Maybe controlling sweat or wearing just the right clothes that don’t show it, is a daily battle. If sweaty armpits are a problem that is decreasing your quality of life, know that you are not alone. Many people have this issue. We have a treatment that will help—Botox.
I know that the mention of Botox may surprise you. Most of you know that Botox is an effective treatment for deep facial lines and wrinkles. Is Botox FDA Cleared for excess sweating in the armpits?
Yes it is. Botox has been shown to be a highly effective treatment of this problem. This isn’t a “quack” treatment. FDA cleared Botox is one of the best treatments available.
Will health insurance cover this treatment?
Yes, health insurances often cover part or all of this treatment. Isn’t this exciting news? Sometimes, insurances will ask you to try other less expensive ways of treating this problem first. For example, you may be asked to try a prescription antiperspirant. If the prescription works, then problem solved. If not, you have another solution.
How does botox stop the sweating?
Sweat glands produce sweat when your nerves “tell” your glands to. When your body is overheating, sweating is a natural way to cool your body. However, when these nerves go into overdrive and stimulate the sweat glands for no reason, that is when they need to be stopped. Botox paralyzes the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. Sweat is no longer produced in your armpit. Botox works in the area it is injected. It won’t paralyze all the nerves in your body, only the ones affected by the injection.
What is the treatment like? Do I need to do anything in advance to prepare for the treatment?
The treatment is quick, 30-60 minutes. You are able to resume normal activities immediately. You lie down and Botox will be injected in your armpit with a fine-gauge needle. You will be inject several times in each armpit.
To prepare for this treatment, avoid shaving your armpits for 2-3 days before.
Are there side effects?
